PERSONALITY
Hermione is very smart and hardworking. This is evidenced by the diligence she pays to her studies. She is more often than not found in the library, a fact that Ron always teases her for. If it wasn't for the fact that she was so studious in everything that she did Harry and Ron probably would have been killed three times over. She takes her studies very seriously, and is very passionate about the causes she believes in. She especially focused her attention on freeing Buckbeak from the ministry's control. She is not against bending the rules for a good cause. She also takes on the cause of freeing House Elves, especially Dobby and Winkie.
Being smart is something that Hermione prides herself on, in fact she is very vocal about how smart she is, and making sure that everyone around her knows it. That attitude often leaves her feeling very isolated and alone. As hard as she tries not to let it, what people think of her matters to Hermione, which is why she was so upset when Ron made fun of her. As the years went on she became less obnoxious about her intelligence, and it became a given that she would know the answers. She not only relied on her magical aptitude, but also logic. She embodies the meshing of the magical and muggle worlds.
Hermione was quite responsible, perfectionistic and well put-together, which led to her being made a prefect during her fifth year. Her responsibility is evidenced by the fact that she is given a time turner to use during third year to take extra classes, something that no other third year student was allowed to do. Hermione was very diligent about not breaking the rules involving the time turning, and as such Ron and Harry never knew she had it until she used it to save Buckbeak.
Opinionated and bossy are words that could be used to describe Hermione. She was content to share her opinions and tell people what to do at every turn. She was never one to shy away from a fight or a good debate. It was the reason that she succeeded in almost everything she did, because she was too stubborn and tenacious to give up on anything. That nature, however, is only a mask to hide her insecurities for her fear of failure. Hermione took not being a pureblood witch very seriously, and she was determined to prove her worth to the magical community and not let herself get bullied.
Hermione tried to remain unaffected by the effects the war had on her, but that wasn't always possible. She was a bright, eager eyed witch. She wasn't hardened by the cruelty of war when she first started at Hogwarts. Helping Harry was supposed to be a onetime thing, and then she would go back to her studies and excelling at everything she did. She hadn’t counted on being outsmarted by a troll or the boys saving her. Hermione is a very loyal creature, and Ron and Harry saving her in first year, bonded them for life. A life debt is a very precious thing in the magical world, and it one that Hermione took very seriously. She became less bossy and trolly as the effects of Harry's journey took their toll on all of them, none more so than Hermione. Her know-it-all-ness seemed to lessen to a certain degree as the years went on. She knew she was the smartest witch in her class, but she gained confidence in helping and befriending Harry that she did not need the constant pats on the back that she once did.
Hermione is very strong independent woman, but she is also a woman who is not afraid to show emotion as well. This is especially evident in the last books, specifically when Ron leaves them at Godrick's Hollow. She is visibly shaken, and very emotional as she watches him leave, the tears streaming down her face. She knows what their mission is, but that doesn't mean she always has to like it. She allows herself to be vulnerable with Harry at his parents’ grave site, because Harry stuck by her when Ron left, and she trusted him to catch her if she fell.
There were two really defining moments in Hermione's life that shaped the person that she became after the war. The first was the Golden Trio's capture and torture at Malfoy manor. Bella took special interest in Hermione, especially when she noticed Godric Gryffindor's sword. In her panic, Bella revealed some truth's to Hermione regarding the location of another Horcrux. Bella decided that it would a game to torture Hermione using the Cruciatus Curse. Many more powerful witches have broken under this cruse, but Hermione didn't. It made her stronger, tougher. She withstood the curse, and using her smarts, managed to tell Bella that they had a fake sword. Hermione got her first significant would when Bella sliced her throat as they were escaping. Knowing that she could withstand torture, made Hermione even more determined to help Harry defeat Voldemort. She found an inner strength deep within herself to survive torture and the war, and it is a strength that she carried with her throughout her life, well past the war. She was totally out of control, and she never wants to feel that way again.
Hermione made the most difficult decision of her life when she decided that in order to keep her parents safe, she had to take all of their memories of her away. She is a very skilled witch, so it was easy for her to do the spell, but the decision that brought her there was the most difficult that she has ever made in her life. One that still haunts her to this day. It takes a very strong and determined person to take away the only family she ever knew in order to protect them. The way that she carries herself after she went home, carries an air of determination and sadness around with her, one that never seemed to go away. She believes that she has to succeed in everything she does now, otherwise everything that she gave up would be for naught, and that is an unacceptable conclusion.
She goes back to school to get her NEWTS for her parents. She excels in her job because in her mind failure is just not an option. Anything less than the best would be inadequate. She pulls herself forward by both wanting to succeed for herself and in the name of her parents.

ABOUT
Hermione Jean[13] Granger (b. 19 September, 1979[1]) was a Muggle-born[14] witch and the daughter of Mr and Mrs Granger, both dentists in London. Hermione was raised as a Muggle girl until, at age eleven, she learned that she was a witch and had been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She began attending the school on 1 September, 1991, where she was subsequently sorted into Gryffindor House, despite having the choice to be in Ravenclaw. She possessed a brilliant academic mind, and proved to be a gifted student. She was very studious and bookish.
Hermione first met Harry Potter and Ron Weasley aboard the Hogwarts Express. Both boys found Hermione unfriendly and somewhat of an insufferable know-it-all. Later her eagerness to please her professors and her constantly correct answers reinforced their initial impression. However, in spite of the cool relationship between the three, Hermione stepped in to take the blame from Ron and Harry after they had saved her from a troll on Hallowe'en in 1991. Harry and Ron were surprised, but grateful and the three quickly became friends.
In her second year, Hermione played a crucial role in the discovery of the Chamber of Secrets before falling victim to the basilisk unleashed upon Hogwarts following the opening of the Chamber. She was recovered from her petrification under the care of Madam Pomfrey with the assistance of Professor Sprout's Mandrake Restorative Draught. The following year, Hermione was granted permission to use, and was sent, a Time-Turner from the Ministry of Magic to facilitate her volition to study far more subjects than was possible without time travel. Later in the year, she and Harry would use the Time-Turner to rescue Sirius Black from the Dementor's Kiss as well as Buckbeak the hippogriff from execution. During her fourth year at Hogwarts, Hermione became an advocate for the better treatment of house-elves, forming the association S.P.E.W. She also helped Harry prepare for the Triwizard Tournament. In her fifth year, she was the driving force behind the creation of Dumbledore's Army. Later in her fifth year, she fought alongside Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood, and Neville Longbottom in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. In her sixth year, she fought in the Battle of the Astronomy Tower and, at the beginning of what would have been her seventh year, the Battle of the Seven Potters in 1997.
Hermione and Ron both decided not to return to Hogwarts for their final year of studies and instead chose to accompany Harry on his quest to find and destroy Lord Voldemort's Horcruxes. She then fought in, and survived, the Battle of Hogwarts, as well as destroying Hufflepuff's Cup, a horcrux with Ron Weasley, using a basilisk fang found in the Chamber of Secrets (then opened by Ron imitating Harry saying "open" in Parseltongue).
Following the Second Wizarding War, Hermione went back to Hogwarts to complete her education.
APPEARANCE
Hermione had lots of bushy brown hair, brown eyes, a bossy sort of voice that would become slightly shrill when she was angry,[17] and — as a child — rather large front teeth.
Hermione never gave much attention to her appearance, and usually hid her potential to be extremely pretty under her bushy hairstyle and a large pile of books, which she kept slung on her back.[16] She generally wore her school uniform under her robes. Otherwise, she dressed casually.
However, in 1994, Hermione had Madam Pomfrey magically shrink her front teeth after she was accidentally struck with a Densaugeo spell, making it unnecessary for her to receive the braces her parents had originally intended for her. She also used Sleekeazy's Hair Potion to fix her hair, though she later remarked that it was too much work to use everyday. It was eventually revealed that these efforts were to help her look her very best for the Yule Ball.
Hermione's arm was scarred when Bellatrix Lestrange carved the word "Mudblood" into her skin with a knife when she, Harry and Ron were captured at Malfoy Manor in the spring of 1998. It is unknown if this scar ever completely healed.
ABILITIES
Hermione is portrayed during the whole series as an exceptionally talented young witch. Rowling has stated that Hermione is a "borderline genius."[46] She received ten O.W.L.s, which were nine Outstandings and one Exceeds Expectations. She is the best student in Harry's year and is repeatedly the first student to master any spell or charm introduced in classes and even from more advanced years, as evidenced when she is able to conjure a Protean Charm on the D.A.'s fake Galleon coins, which is actually a N.E.W.T. level charm. She is also the first one to be able to cast non-verbal spells. Hermione is an exceptional duellist, capable of outmatching even Death Eaters, as shown in the battle at the Department of Mysteries, at the Lovegoods' house, and in the Battle of Hogwarts. However, Rowling has stated that while during the first three books Hermione would have beaten Harry in a magical duel, by the fourth book Harry had become so good at Defence Against the Dark Arts that he would have defeated Hermione. Hermione did not tend to do as well in subjects that were not learned through books or formal training, as broom flying did not come as naturally to her in her first year as it did to Harry, and she showed no affinity for Divination, which she dropped from her third year studies. She was also not good at Wizard's Chess, as it was the only thing at which she ever lost. Hermione's Patronus is an otter.
